My Journey

I started out on the traditional route in my life. I got a degree in teaching because it was a good career for a family, and married my childhood sweetheart. Life was pretty good for a lot of years. I taught for a while and then was a stay at home mom until my third started first grade. In that time we decided on a whim to move to where I had grown up and build a house there. One would think that would be an easy transition, but it actually took me some time to find my place, and it turns out building your own house is a pretty giant task! I learned a lot about persevering in the face of difficulties from those experiences.

In 2015 my life was turned upside down when my husband passed away. My children were 12, 15, and 16. I was teaching at the time and put all of my attention towards raising and supporting my children, adding a few more loved ones to my family along the way by hosting international students.

In 2020, as my youngest approached graduation, I knew I needed a change. I had given so much of myself to taking care of my family, and I needed to rediscover ME. I went back to school and got my degree in mental health counseling and changed careers, part of my journey of creating a new life for myself. Since then, I've discovered that I love to travel and I've taken several solo trips to other countries. Right now I am in the process of preparing to sell my house and become a full-time digital nomad. I also realized that there are things I enjoy about teaching, so started coaching which uses both my teaching and counseling skills. I still do counseling as well and am licensed in the state of Michigan.
